5 Reasons You Need To Try Abseiling

Each summer we offer Abseiling on a Skyros holiday with Berny Woodward in Greece.

Read on for 5 reasons you MUST give it a go next summer.

1. You're in safe hands

Berny holds the UK Mountain Instructors Certificate and has extensive experience having worked in the RAF as an Outdoor Adventure Instructor for over 20 years. You're in safe hands as you tackle ever more challenging obstacles as the course progresses.

What did guests from the holidays this year say about Berny?

"A teddy bear disguised as a fantastic abseil teacher."

"Loud, sensible and dry sense of humour."

"Loving and considerate and aware of limitations and allowed for them without highlighting or separating you."

2. A chance to try something new

Have you always wondered how it would feel to inch yourself off a cliff? Take the opportunity! Skyros holidays are all about being daring and trying something new. Confront your fears and and you'll win.

3. The stunning scenery

Greece is a beautiful country, Skyros is a particularly stunning island and Atsitsa Bay is paradise. Don't forget to take in the views as you descend to ground level.

4. The adrenaline rush

There's no better feeling than the rush of pride and excitement that comes with doing something so thrilling. Ride the buzz for hours.

5. The confidence boost

You've done it! You've pushed yourself over the edge and out of your comfort zone. If you can do that you can do ANYTHING. Don't forget that boost when you get home, remind yourself of what you can acheive.

I cannot recommend abseiling in Atsitsa highly enough...if you choose to take on this challenge in one of the most beautiful natural bay settings in the World, you will be amazed at the variety of challenges offered once you’ve learnt the basic skills with myself, an instructor familiar with such challenges as the Troll Wall in Norway, North Face of the Eiger and Half Dome and El Cap in Yosemite. As well travelled in the mountains as I am, what is on offer at Atsitsa is so unique at an introductory level, including abseiling by headtorch in a mine and kearning the more advanced technique of negotiating an overhang! In the 21 years I have been doing this at Atsitsa, I can honestly say I’ve enjoy the enormous privelege of seeing people transform their perception of just how much coursge and adventure they and it is transformative as a way of experiencing a great sense of achievement! Go for it guys, you only get once chance at this life, so live it to the full!!

It was my second visit to wonderful Atsitsa Bay this September to participate in yoga & drawing. As they clashed and abseiling was on offer I decided to have a go. I was absolutely terrified but lovely Berny as facilitator put me totally at ease. I can't tell you how excited and proud I was to challenge myself and complete all abseils more than once! Loved it so much that I am planning an abseil down Peacehaven cliff next year for charity. Can't wait to go back to Atsitsa next year - it's my idea of paradise.
