4 Ways to Live More Fully (Inspired by a Skyros Summer)

As the Skyros season draws to a close, one thing stands out: the moments that helped our guests feel most alive weren’t complicated. They were simple, human, and memorable. From slowing down to unlocking creativity, finding belonging, and carrying inspiration home, this summer offered powerful reminders of how to live more fully, lessons you can bring into your own life right now.

Slow down to feel alive

Life often pushes us to go faster, to fit more in, to keep moving. Yet again and again, guests told us that slowing down at Skyros helped them feel more alive. One guest shared: “I found inspiration in the daily rhythm – creativity, laughter, and time to just be.”

Pausing to notice the sea breeze, to share a meal, or to sit quietly under the pines brought a vibrancy that rushing could never deliver.

Embrace creativity without pressure

Creativity flourished in every corner of our holidays, from painting and mosaics to writing, dance, and music. These weren’t just activities; they were ways of opening up, expressing ourselves, and rediscovering joy. As one participant put it: “The art classes were both fun and freeing, I felt supported to try without pressure.”

Creativity reminds us that living fully isn’t about being perfect. It’s about being present, playful, and willing to try.

Belonging makes us stronger

Skyros thrives because of its people. Guests, facilitators, work scholars, and staff all contribute to a sense of community that makes strangers feel like family. “It’s like being part of a big family, warm, friendly, and supportive. Strangers quickly became friends,” wrote one guest.

Belonging isn’t just a nice extra; it’s at the heart of wellbeing. It’s what helps us feel safe enough to explore, rest, and grow.

Carry it home

Perhaps the greatest lesson of this summer is that the Skyros spirit doesn’t end with the holiday. Guests often tell us that they take home the practices of mindfulness, gratitude, and creative courage they discovered here. These are the sparks that continue to light everyday life long after the suitcase is unpacked.
